2/12/2007 - Daylight Savings Time Changes in 2007
Daylight Savings Time Changes in 2007 Birmingham, AL- February 12, 2007 In August of 2005 the United States Congress passed the Energy Policy Act, which changes the dates of both the start and end of daylight saving time (DST). This law goes into effect in 2007.DST will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end oneweek later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November) than what had traditionally occurred. While this act will provide four more weeks of later sunsets, the change could cause issues with servers, desktops, network equipment, phones and other devices if proper patches and updates arenot applied. Without the proper patches and updates, most computer-based clocks will be an hour off beginning March 11. Possible issues associated with the time change may include the inability to log into systems, incorrect calendar appointment times, time-based programs running at the wrong times, and incorrect times being displayed on computers and phones. Any potential problems may be avoided by applying the necessary patches and work arounds available from software and hardware manufacturers if they are available. By taking action now, you can ensure that all of your clocks will be correct and your systems fully functional when daylight savings time begins on March 11.
